The Translation Service Agent (TSA)

The Background:

Our Customer develops highly sensitive information that must be kept in a secure environment until it can be released to the end user. The data was to be integrated into a new Data Management system developed by Cognitran. Due to the size of the translation suppliers and their locations in-market, providing direct access to the source data was too costly.

The Task:

• Provide cost-effective access to the source data to a designated group of in-market translation suppliers
• Enable them to utilise the Translation tools provided by the Data Management System
• Ensure the data security and integrity during translation and delivery

The Cognitran Solution:

The Translation Services Agent (TSA) offers a secure web service that makes translation packages from the Data Management system accessible for external translators. The benefits are as follows:

• Translators work with the data off-line and on-line, anywhere in the world.
• Translators can manage translation knowledge resources, such as Translation Memory and Terminology, including those destined for web-only dissemination.
• The user-friendly Web interface requires minimum training and basic technical understanding.
• The overall translation cost and translation redundancy are reduced.
• The modularised system is portable and readily extensible.
• The solution seamlessly integrates with the Data Management System.
• Service Oriented Architecture allows customisation and flexibilty of delivery.

The Result:

The Customer was able to retain experienced translation suppliers during the transition to the new Data Management system.

The TSA provides the basis for other tools that enable the automation of the interaction between translators and their customers. Cognitran's work was performed as part of Oasis Translation WS TC and is part of an effort to standardise such processes.
