Cognitran offer training in a variety of subjects. Our courses range from hands-on training on our products, to courses on subjects pertaining to structured documentation and the management of it.

Introduction to XML

This seminar provides an introductory overview of XML, its structure and its application. The primary focus of discussion is the practical implementation of XML in real businesses, so it concentrates on providing a simple explanation of what XML is, how it can be used in data interchange and how it is used to deliver web services. This course is suitable for IT professionals seeking to understand the potential benefits of XML and the practical problems of implementing XML in the commercial environment; and for technical managers wishing to evaluate or implement XML.

XML Editing with XMetaL

This course covers the basics of XML authoring using the graphical user interface. No prior XML experience is necessary, and our course Introduction to XML is recommended. This is a hands-on course. Special arrangements can be made to train authors aiming to author with a particular DTD or schema.

Java and XML

This course builds skills in Java's XML processing APIs, chiefly parsing using SAX and DOM and transformation using XSLT. It assumes experience with object-oriented Java and the Java streams model. It also assumes a basic understanding of XML.

Hands-on XSL Transformation

This course teaches you how to use XSLT to process your XML data into another markup format like HTML or WAP. You will learn how to create simple "fill-in-the-blank" stylesheets. You will learn how to use XPath to navigate to any node in an XML tree, how to use rule-based stylesheets to create powerful stylesheet applications.

XSL-FO

XSL-FO is used to generate printable/display formatted objects from an XML document. We will use XSL-FO to generate a variety of documents in PDF. This class introduces the student to the basic command set used for producing a PDF document from XML/XSL input. The student will learn the basic XSL command for simple transformations, as well as the XSL instructions used to generate Formatting Objects. Our "Hands-on XSL Transformation" course is recommended as a pre-requisite.

Hands-On Technical Service Agent (TSA) Training

A 1-day course on the use of our on-line translation agent service solution. This course is designed for translators, and assume linguistic expertise, and basic computer/browser experience.
